Abstract: This thesis is intended to analyze Gothic elements of Beloved, the masterpiece of Tony Morrison. Beloved is based on a real historical occurrence and it describes a slave mother , Sethe who killed her daughter and tried to kill herself when the slave owner came to capture them. The daughter, Beloved, returns many years later to haunt the house in which she was killed—124 Bluestone Road. In Beloved, Morrison tells a slave mother’s painful experience under slavery system. By using Gothicism, it reveals the tragic living circumstances of the black women and explores their psychological traumas originated from the slavery system . Through this paper, it helps people deepen the outstanding of the Gothic novels and has a great contribution to how to use Gothic Elements to create literature. 摘要:本文主要探讨了托尼·莫里森的代表作《宠儿》中哥特因素的运用。《宠儿》以真实的历史故事为基础,描写了一位叫塞丝的黑人母亲在奴隶主逮捕她们的途中杀死了自己的女儿并试图自杀。宠儿在多年后回到了她被杀死的地方,她终日出现在124号蓝石路。在《宠儿》中,莫里森运用哥特手法讲述了在奴隶制下黑人母亲的痛苦经历,揭示了黑人的悲惨生活环境并探讨了奴隶制给黑人女性带来的心理创伤。通过本文,加深了人们对哥特小说的理解,也对如何运用哥特手法进行创作极具贡献意义。 关键词:宠儿;奴隶制;哥特元素 |
