Abstract:Interpretation has been developing along with human history of politics, economics, civilization, commerce, technology as well as religion and so on and so forth. There are many who had specialized in interpreting for over hundreds of years,interpreting, however, hadn’t been acknowledged as a profession until the World WarⅠ.In 1919, large number of interpreters were hired as consecutive interpreters in Paris Peace conference. Afterwards most of them established kinds of interpreting institutions or academies. After the World War Ⅱ, after the United Nations setting up the translation institutions, lots of international and regional organizations were founded. The International Association of Conference Interpreters (IACI), in particular, was founded on Nov.11, 1953. So far, people all around the world formally took interpreting as a profession and the staff as respectable interpreters and by then, interpreting became a remarkable profession throughout the world. In China, interpretation has been a profession for more than 2000 years. But its development didn’t get anywhere until 1920s, when the increasing expansion in international communication aroused the experts’ attention, “but anyway, it could not catch up with the western world in interpreting research with a history of more than 50years.” (Xiao Xiaoyan, 2002). With the implementation of China’s reform and opening-up policy, more and more people of various circles come to China from different parts of the world and take part in international cooperation. The increase of exchange and contact between China and the rest of the world results in the increasing need of interpreters between Chinese and other language, particularly the interpreters with a language combination of Chinese and English. With the extensive and intensive development and expansion of global economics and trade, there is an urgent need of not only business interpreters in large number but of higher quality. That would place a great challenge on lots of Chinese-English interpreting professionals with a view to succeeding in business interpretation. After analyzing the skills and strategies of business interpretation, with comprehensive understanding and mastery of its practical application, suggestions in this article would be helpful to break through the challenge and get to an ideal level in business interpretation.
