Abstract：Taking the English version of the Chinese novel Big Breasts and Wide Hips as the example, this thesis analyzes Chinese culture-loaded words and their translation limitations from the perspective of Relevance Theory. It also explores the basic strategies and methods for translating Chinese culture-loaded words from the angle of optimal relevance. On the one hand, it is intended to prove the explanatory power of Relevance Theory towards the translation of Chinese culture-loaded words; on the other hand, it intends to provide a new point of view for translating Chinese culture-loaded words, so as to make the original author’s intention meet with the target text reader’s expectation.

摘要：本文以莫言的《丰乳肥臀》英译本为例，从关联理论的视角对汉语文化负载词本身及其可译性限度等方面进行分析，并从最佳关联的角度探讨翻译汉语文化负载词的基本策略及方法。一方面旨在证明关联理论对翻译的解释力，另一方面为汉语文化负载词的翻译提供一个新的视角，从而使原文作者的意图与译文读者的期待相契合。
