Abstract:In recent years, it is increasingly recognized that vocabulary is fundamental element of every aspect of the second language or foreign language learning. Many studies on vocabulary learning strategies from different aspects have been carried out both abroad and in China. However, the studies abroad can not describe the fact of Chinese students. In china,there are few research on vocabulary learning strategies have been taken English majors in independent colleges as subjects. In this light, the present study attempts to investigate the use of vocabulary learning strategies by English majors in China’s independent colleges. 30 second-years English majors and 30 fourth-years English majors of Zengcheng College of South China Normal University are surveyed with a self-designed questionnaire. This research found that, firstly, Deep-processing Strategies and Shallow-processing Strategies are widely used by the English majors in independent colleges. Secondly, the Deep-processing Strategies affect the students’ achievement significantly. Thirdly, Contextualization Strategy, Imagination Strategy, Association Strategy, Familiar Word Strategy, Pronunciation Strategy and Activation Strategy have significant effects to the students’ achievement.

中文摘要: 近年来,越来越多人认识到,对于英语学习者来说词汇是英语学习中最基本的要素。世界各地和我国的语言学家都针对词汇学习策略的不同方面发表了他们的研究报告。然而,外国的研究不一定能反映中国学生的真实状况。在中国,很少研究是以独立学院英语专业学生作为调查对象。在这样的情况下,本研究试图探讨词汇学习策略在中国独立学院英语专业学生中的使用情况。本次研究的对象是华南师范大学增城学院2007 和2009届英语专业的学生。得出以下三个结论:1.浅编码策略还是深编码策略都被学生广泛使用。2.深编码策略对学生的学习成就具有显著的影响。3.在众多独立策略之中,上下文策略,联想策略,想象策略,熟词策略,发音策略和活用策略对学生的学习成就影响显著。
