This paper, based on the rationale of Move-Step Genre Analysis and on the method of quantitative analysis, is aimed at refining the discourse structure of English hotel introduction on a macroscopic level as well as helping English learners know more about the features of Business English. By analyzing 30 English hotel profiles collected at random (The author collected a cluster of English hotel introductions from the internet and brochures on hotels’ frontdesks. She arranged these hotels’ names in alphabetical order, and then chose 30 of them through the computer’s auto arrange function), this paper will make an attempt to figure out the common move-step structure of hotel introductions. Besides, the frequency of each move appearing in Hotel introduction will be calculated in order to give an in-depth analysis on which move is obligatory, which is reversible and which optional. These moves will be analyzed from two respects, namely, function, linguistics(encompasses illustration of meaning (semantics, syntax), and vocabulary), to identify the characteristics of moves and steps of hotel introduction. The three fundamental communicative purposes of hotel introduction are: persuade, inform and promote. This genre analysis method can be employed to other field of texts as well as in teaching and writing. It is instructive and constructive for students in getting familiar with and mastering various kinds of texts. |
