Abstract:Reading makes society develop and by reading books readers can get all kinds of knowledge. Reading is a very good way to widen people’s horizon and enhance people’s interest in English. Furthermore, reading makes readers’ life enjoyable. Therefore, to improve reading ability is one of the most important tasks for foreign language learners. However, current college students seem to have difficulties in reading accurately and efficiently. This paper analyses college students’ problems in their reading and the ways to improve their reading ability by adopting the following methods: having an active attitude, enriching vocabulary, enlarging background knowledge, and applying reading strategies. All these reading skills are of great significance to college English reading teaching and learning.

摘要:读书使社会发展，而且通过阅读书籍，读者可以得到各种各样的知识。阅读能使人增长见识，拓宽视野，提高学习者对英语的兴趣，同时，阅读能给读者的生活带来乐趣，所以提高英语阅读水平成了英语学习者的一个重要任务。当前大学生在英语阅读中仍然存在着一些问题，比如语言基础知识掌握不牢固，知识面和文化背景知识的障碍，和学生的不良阅读习惯。本文将分析如何通过以下的方法来培养英语阅读能力：树立信心、积极主动地去阅读；增长语言知识；扩大读者的阅读背景知识；应用良好的阅读技巧。这些可行性较强的阅读策略，对阅读教与学都有重要的意义。
