Abstract:As the world famous brand, IBM—— the international business machine, its development is not always plain sailing. At the beginning of 1930s, the IBM also confronted the operational peril of the bottleneck. What were the problems cumbered IBM? What kind of strategies did IBM adapt to make itself head off the danger finally? During the critical time, what kind of role did the corporate culture play? What is the kernel of its corporate culture? How did the IBM team members take their corporate culture into realistic transactions? Why could it pull up IBM’s slacks? Nowadays, under the background of having entered the WTO, as a developing country, what kind of bottle-neck does China affront? Are there any misunderstandings or misapplications in the construction of corporate culture in China? How can the Chinese companies play a stronger and more competitive role in the world market? The following thesis will take IBM for an example to focus on its corporate culture by anatomizing its 4 layers——the psychic layer, the institutional layer, the behavioral layer, and the substantial layer, and reveal their common core, that is, the altruistic spirit. Key words: corporate culture, altruistic spirit, the psychic layer, the institutional layer, the behavioral layer, the substantial layer
