Abstract: Topic selection is the first and the most important stage in thesis writing. It directly influences the quality of whole article.  This research takes the senior student of Foreign Language School of YuXi Normal University as the subject. Through investigation, it is found that in topic selection, students are easily trapped in extremes：the topic is too narrow or too general in the scale and too impractical or  too old in the content. And the relationship between students and their supervisors is also a big matter. Based on these findings, the researcher put forward some solutions to the problems in topic selection. It is hoped that this paper will help students get proper topics.

摘 要:选题是论文写作的第一步，也是最重要的一步。题目的选择直接关系到整个论文质量的好坏，所以，论文写作选题是关键。本文主要调查了XX学院外国语学院英语专业大四学生的英语论文选题情况。结果表明，英语专业学生在选题中经常存在题目范围过大，过小，内容过新，过旧的矛盾，以及与指导老师的关系处理等问题。根据调查结果，作者提出了一些相应的建议。希望能为以后的论文写作者提供一些参考。
