Abstract:Since published, Gone with the Wind has received constant attention from American even from the whole world. This is attributed to not only the social life during the Civil War which is reflected in the novel, but to a great degree, from the unforgettable characters shaped by Mitchell. Probably, the most impressed character lies in the heroin who runs through the whole novel all the time-Scarlett O'Hara. Up to now, most scholars have used much more words and inks to analyze Scarlett O’Hara when studying this novel. Comparatively, less attention is paid to other characters who are distinctive in personification. Rhett Butler is one of these characters. Speaking of Rhett Butler, whoever knows about this novel is supposed to be mainly touched by his love for Scarlett O’Hara. As a result, he is remembered by the readers only for this aspect. However, the fact is far from this. People’s feelings for him, love or hate, are formed and infiltrated into their mind little by little during reading this novel. In the author's writing, Rhett Butler is such a multi-faceted person that we can't easily draw a conclusion about him. He looks like a selfish mercenary mammonist, but he expresses his caring from time to time in his own way; He is said to be in defiance of both people and virtue, but he shows uncommon respect to people with low social status; he is a man brave enough to face and reveal love with cossets, but he also inevitably happens to be fragile and feels like escaping. All of these complicated features belong to Rhett Butler. Such complicated sentiments concentrated in one person, which makes a unique Rhett Butler. The article aims to show this Rhett Butler to readers according to analysis of the statements between the lines in the book.

摘要:自问世以来，《飘》就受到了全美国乃至全世界的关注，不仅仅因为其反映出来的南北战争的社会生活，还有很大程度上得利于米切尔塑造出来的令人难忘的角色，让人印象最深的可能就是始终贯穿整篇小说的女主人公-郝思嘉，至今为止，大多数学者在研究这本小说的时候，也是多将笔墨放在了郝思嘉这个人物身上，而对于作者塑造的其他的性格鲜明人物被关注得相对来说就比较少了，白瑞德就是其中一个。说起白瑞德，凡是知道这本小说的人最后应该主要是被他对郝思嘉的感情所感动，在大多数读者眼里对他的印象也就仅仅留在了这一点上，而事实远远不止这些，大家对他或爱或恨的感情是通过在整本书看下来慢慢渗透到大脑里的，在作者笔下，白瑞德是一个多面性的人物，我们没有办法简单得出有关这个人物分析的结论，看似一个自私自利，唯利是图的金钱主义者，却又不时以他的方式表达出那份关爱；说他目中无人，无所谓道德观念，可又给予身处社会底层人以难得的尊敬；对爱情勇于面对，敢于表露的痴情汉，但也难免有脆弱逃避的时候。这些都是男主人公白瑞德复杂的性格特点，如此复杂情绪集于一人之上，从而形成了一个与众不同的白瑞德。本文就旨在根据书中字里行间语句的分析，将这样的一个白瑞德读者剖析呈现给读者们。
