Abstract: Eugene O’Neill is the father of American drama. Beyond the Horizon is one of his best works. This thesis aims to analyze the causes of conflicts in the play. In the introduction, there is a brief account about Eugene O’Neill and the literature review. The following two chapters are the descriptions of the causes and conflicts. Based on the analyses, it is concluded that there always exists irreconcilable conflicts between ideals and reality in modern society characterized for fetishisms and alienation.
