Abstract:Proverbs derive from life. It has a long history and collects the wisdom from the masses. Besides, it’s one of the oldest and most valuable forms of language. According to the study of cultural differences and translation between English and Chinese proverbs, not only can we learn the history, cultures of different countries and expand our horizons, but we can also learn how to treat things from the point of microscopic view, and establish the ideas of cross-cultural communication. Proverbs are one of the indispensable parts of the historical culture. It has strong national colour and cultural style. Proverbs translation is one of the most difficult issues in translation. To a certain degree, it determines whether a translation work is successful or not.

中文摘要:谚语来源于生活，历史悠久，汇集了民间大众的智慧，是人类各民族文化中最古老、最有价值的语言表示形式之一。通过英汉谚语的文化差异及翻译的学习，不仅可以了解各国的历史、文化，扩大视野，还可以学会从微观的角度来看待事物，树立跨文化交际的思想。谚语是历史文化中的一个重要组成部分，它具有浓厚的民族色彩和文化个性。如何有效地翻译谚语是翻译的一大难点，往往在一定程度上关系到翻译作品的成功与否。
