Abstract:Language is a mirror of society; it reflects all kinds of social phenomena. Sexism in language is the reflection of social sexism on women. Linguistic directions of degrading and devaluing female can be located everywhere. This paper mainly collects and discusses about the phenomenon of sexism in English language from sociolinguistic perspective to have a better understanding of the relationship between English language and society. And based on the previous researches on sexism, in this paper the causes of constructing sexism will be explored, including historical, social and cultural reasons. Besides, the ways of eliminating sexism will be discussed.

中文摘要:语言是社会的一面镜子，它能折射出各种各样的社会现象。语言中的性别歧视是社会对女性的种种歧视。语言中很多地方存在着诋毁女性、贬低女性的现象。本文主要从社会语言学的角度来对英语语言中存在的性别歧视现象进行讨论，希望更加深入的了解语言与女性的关系。在前人研究的基础上，本文从社会语言学角度分析了性别歧视形成的历史、社会和文化原因，并探讨了消除英语语言中性别歧视的一些途径。
