Abstract:In the fast-changing 21st century, with the rapid development of science and technology, the acquisition and dissemination of information has gradually become an important symbol of status and influence of a country on the world stage. In the era of “information explosion”, the news is increasingly becoming a significant part of people’s lives. People can receive information from various fields and learn about the changing society through the mass media including newspapers, magazines, television, network and so on. At the same time, with China’s successful entry into the WTO (Word Trade Organization) and the deepening of opening-up, our country’s opportunities to communicate with the external world have also become increasingly frequent; if China wants to know the world, and the world hopes to know China, a large amount of information needs to be transmitted by the news media. And one of the most vital ways to disseminate information is to read English news reports. Journalistic English, as a specific English language, has been independent from the common English. It differs from the common English in words and sentences, article structures, writing characteristics and so on. The English news, with broad and diverse types of writing, has different characteristics: features, reviews, news reports, etc. In addition, the journalistic English often involves government documents and treaties of international organizations. Therefore, this dissertation, through the study of the stylistic features of English news, is intended to enable the English learners to have a more systematic understanding of journalistic English. Keywords: news, journalistic English, stylistic features
