Abstract:The research on politeness principle is a hot topic at home and abroad which makes a lot of achievements in different research fields. The thesis mainly discusses the dialogues in The Twilight which is based on Geoffrey Leech’s politeness principle, especially from the perspective of generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim and agreement maxim.

　　　Through analyzing the dialogues in The Twilight, it can be concluded that the objectives of using politeness principle are extremely extensive. The objectives can be families, friends and lovers. The users try their best to take other’s feelings into consideration in order to avoid others having some negative emotion, like embarrassment, annoyance or anger. In the meantime, the characteristic about politeness principle can be summarized by analyzing the four maxims used in the dialogues in The Twilight. The characteristic about politeness principle in The Twilight is to minimize cost to other and maximize cost to self. The purpose of using politeness principle is to create a harmonious speaking environment and makes relationship of the two speakers better. 

　　　We hope that this thesis will increase the initiative of using politeness principle in the daily conversation. People will be friendly with each other by communicating in a polite and harmonious way.

摘要:礼貌原则的研究一直是国内外应用语言学界关注的热点问题，在不同的研究方向或不同学术领域上都取得了一定的成果。本研究综合了Geoffrey Leech（1983）系统提出的“礼貌原则”这一理论基础，主要从比较常用的慷慨准则、赞美准则、谦虚准则和一致准则这四大准则，对电影《暮光之城》中的对白进行分析研究。

　　　通过对《暮光之城》中的对白进行分析研究,我们总结出礼貌原则的使用对象广泛，可以是亲人间、朋友间或情人间。使用者在对话中都尽力顾全对方感受，避免让对方出现尴尬、恼怒或伤心等负面情绪。同时，结合《暮光之城》对白分析论证礼貌原则中的慷慨准则、赞美准则、谦虚准则及一致准则这四大准则，我们总结出礼貌原则的一个综合特点，主要是在言语中尽量减少他人付出的代价但尽量增加自己付出的代价，其目的都是为双方创造了一个和谐友好的对话环境，拉近彼此间的关系。

　　　希望通过本次研究，能够加大人们在日常对话中使用礼貌原则的主动性。礼貌友好的交流，为人们和谐友好的相处提供了很大的保证。
