Abstract:After the Second World War, the post-colonial phenomenon has become more and more obvious. The English Patient is based on the same-titled novel written by Michael Ondaatje.

　　　The analysis of the movie mainly includes the following five parts. (1) The movie is told through dialogues of the four characters and some related post-colonial information about the author. (2) Homi Bhabha's hybridity theory and its reflection on the characters. (3) Almasy’s ignorance of nationality and identity and the comparison between him and Kip. Almasy wants to be a citizen of the whole world while Kip seeks to fight for the freedom of his motherland. Their choices are also the mainly two among people living in the post-colonial countries. (4) The meaning of the movie to today's globalization from the two different aspects of Almasy and Kip. Almasy represents the mixture of nation, culture and people. The open attitude towards all the people and now we could live more harmoniously together, like those in Hong Kong. Kip shows the consciousness of humanity and anti-colonialism. It means the residents of post-colonial lands are trying to rediscover the meaning of their own traditional cultures instead of seeking the fashion of western cultures. (5) Conclusion: the interpretation of the movie in the perspective of post-colonialism could give some hints to us living in the world nowadays.

　　　The study of the subject mainly lies in the metaphor meaning of the characters. By analyzing the characters, their inner worlds are shown to us. Both the characters of Almasy and Kip show us the two meaningful parts of the subject-- being open to the world as well as keeping one’s own roots.

摘要:自二战结束，后殖民这一独特现象便越来越显著。影片《英国病人》便是根据迈克尔·翁达杰的同名小说改编而成。

　　　对于本课题的研究，主要包括以下五个部分：（1）《英国病人》以及迈克尔·翁达杰。影片中通过对话从四位主人公不同的角度展开故事，以及作者的后殖民背景。（2）对后殖民这一概念的简要阐述，主要包括霍米巴巴的混杂理论及其在影片中四位主人公人物身份上的体现。（3）具体分析主人公艾马殊，包括他的多重国籍和经历，对于身份的弱化，以及他和基普选择不同道路的原因，这也反映了后殖民主义国家人民的两种选择。（4）当今全球化背景下《英国病人》的启示，从艾马殊和基普的不同角度分析。（5）总结影片给全球化冲击下人们的启示。

　　　本课题的研究主要在于通过分析主人公，了解他们的内心世界及心路历程。从而体现出后殖民的两个不同的方面：放开怀抱面向世界以及保持自我独特文化。
