Abstract: Great Expectations describes the development of the hero Pip’s personality, which varies with the drastic changes of his surroundings. This thesis aims to analyze the influences of environmental factors on Pip’s personality formation. The first part consists of an introduction to the author Charles Dickens and a literature review of Great Expectations. The second part is an analysis of the influences of environmental factors on Pip’s personality formation from three aspects, social environment, family background, and surrounding friends. The last part concludes the influences of environmental factors on Pip’s personality formation and reveals that we should try to maintain our original nature and avoid being misled by illusions in order to develop a favorable character..

摘要：《远大前程》描述了主人公皮普性格的形成过程，其性格不是一成不变的，而是随着环境的剧变而不断改变的。本论文旨在分析环境因素对皮普性格的形成所造成的影响。论文第一部分是对作者查尔斯·狄更斯以及《远大前程》研究现状的介绍；第二部分则是分析了三方面的环境因素对皮普性格形成的影响，即社会环境、家庭背景和周遭朋友；最后一部分是总结环境因素对皮普性格的形成所造成的影响,并且揭示我们为了养成良好的性格应该保持纯真本性，尽量避免被幻想误导。
