Abstract: Poetry is the pith of language，while image is the soul of poetry. Images abound in Chinese poems and play an important role in poetic creation. The charm of poetry is attributable to the adoption of rich images. To translate Chinese classical poems of Tang Dynasty into English so that English readers can appreciate them is not only the demand for cultural communication between China and western countries，but also a research field in  translation circles．Image is an important unit of Chinese classical poetry. To some extent，to translate poems is to translate images. That is to say, the translation process of a Chinese classical poem is the process of image recombination and representation in English. This paper tries to use some representative examples of translation for analysis and make a comparatively systematic generalization of specific techniques about image translation in Chinese classical poetry. The present paper is composed of five parts. Part One is a brief introduction. Part Two studies the concept of image. Part Three discusses the importance of image in Chinese classical poetry. Part Four illustrates specific techniques of image translation with corresponding examples. Part Five is the conclusion.

摘要: 诗歌是语言的精华，而意象是诗歌的灵魂。意象在古诗中的运用十分普遍，充当着举足轻重角色。可以说古诗的魅力得益于丰富的意象运用。将唐诗译成英文供英语读者欣赏不仅是中国与西方国家的文化交流的需要，也是翻译研究的一个重要领域。意象是中国古典诗歌的重要组成部分,从某种程度上来说，译诗即译意象。也就是说，翻译唐诗的过程就是意象在英语中的重组和重现的过程。本文选取了一些翻译中具有代表性的案例进行分析并对唐诗意象的英译方法做了相对系统的归纳。全文共分五个部分进行阐述，第一部分是引言，第二部分探讨意象的文化内涵，第三部分阐述意象在诗歌中的重要作用，第四部分用实例介绍意象翻译方法，第五部分是结论。
