This article is an attempt to discuss how the results of research in applied linguistics can be used to improve the development of Japanese textbooks for university students. Specifically, it proposes five steps in the translation process, which are collection, classification, interpretation, selection of the results, and the incorporation of the selected results into the development of textbooks.
