Therefore, in order to explore the function of metalanguage, this paper analyses its inference and constraint on the basis of Relevance Theory. Results show that metalanguage plays a constraining role for listeners in contextual inference. In other words, by providing listeners with topic messages, metalanguage limits their contextual assumption choices, constrains language contextual inference and guides their understanding. What is more, the stronger the inference and constraint of the contextual assumption represented by metalanguage, the more remarkable the contextual effect, the less the processing effort required of listeners to understand the language, and the stronger the correlation between meta language and its context will be. 关 键 词： 分 类 号：H030[语言文字—语言学] |
