It is universally acknowledged that China is the first country who learned how to drink tea in their earliest years. In the golden era when China was still the culture and economic center of the world, tea was spreading out as a typical drink and a synbol of nobility taste. When Japan introduced tea to its own country, it developed into a special tea ceremony which is beautiful and elegant and differs from the ones in China.Until now, tea planting and producing in China still hold an important position for world trade and consuming. In 2017, the total volume of tea export for China was 3 million tons, which accounted for the third largest tea exporting country, with total value of 680 million dollars, which set a new record for Chinese tea exporting industry. Green tea is still the main exporting type. However there was a little decline in the volume of red tea and other special types. On the other hand, Japan turned from a traditional tea exporting country to an importing one in the 1960s. Along with the Opening-up in China, tea trade between China and Japan has been developing very fast. And decades later, China became the most important supplier for Japan's tea market. What's more, competitors, such as Sri Lanka and India, and the green trade barriers have laid negative influences on the trading.Based on statistic data and previous research, this paper briefly introduces the roles China and Japan plays in the world tea market, analyzes the evolution, current situation and characteristics of tea trading. Since technical barriers, other than other than quantity control, finance and price control measures, have increased from 55% in 1994 to 85% in 2017, and tea products are extensively affected, this paper also pays a special attention to the technical standards, influence and countermeasures which the Chinese government could take to face this situation.
