Along with a review of the 30-year-long development of JSP study in Japan, this article provides an in-depth analysis of the research done by Japanese scholars on the teaching of academic Japanese writing and the achievements they have made in practice. It finds that systematic investigations in this field mainly focus on the linguistic characteristics of different academic discourses, the pattern of logic and internal organization in academic writing, and the design of related textbook and training activities.
