Chinese-Japanese homographs have always been the hot research topic in Chinese and Japanese linguistic circles. At present, researches in this field mainly centre on the Chinese and Japanese vocabulary communication, synchronic comparison between Chinese and Japanese vocabulary systems, meaning and usage comparison between Chinese-Japanese homographs etc. Although these researches have yielded rich achievements, there are still a lot of subjects worth studying. Even some most basic problems have not been well solved yet. For example, the definition of Chinese-Japanese homographs, the items and quantity of homographs used in modern language practice of Chinese and Japanese, their classification methods , the research methods about their meaning and usage, and so on.
