The fact that translation studies in Japan belong to the realm of ＂studies＂ （lun） instead of the realm of ＂theories＂ （xue） does not obscure the highlights of the field. The flexibility and transcendence that Japanese translators exhibit in their studies of the theories and practices of translation are certainly worthy of consideration.
