Abstract
At the current stage, due to a lack of enough hands-on experiences, logistics still remains at its initial stage of development among most Chinese enterprises, they don’t have a well-established scheme to deal with day-to-day management of logistics. In particular, when it comes to inventory, application of just-in-time(JIT) inventory system is equally far from mature while outside China, its function is already recognized and thus has been adopted very widely in the business circle. Therefore, a big gap exists between Chinese enterprises and their foreign counterparts. If in the nearby future, such a gap cannot be narrowed down, they can hardly cope with the challenges that may emerge in the market. In order to catch up quickly, one pressing task is to establish a JIT system that can not only help reduce inventory level, but better coordinate production and supply of modern enterprises.
This thesis aims to analyze both pros and cons of just-in-time system, as well as its application for Chinese enterprises to achieve greater efficiency. Given the fact that as time goes by, they will more actively engage in global business, the thesis also provides several useful advice. Accordingly, on the one hand, some key theories on this subject are elaborated; simultaneously, a case is also introduced to explore if some meaningful lessons can be acquired.
Key Words: logistics inventory management just-in-time efficiency Toyota

1 Introduction
Ever since the 21st century, there has been a rapid increase in both world trade and international investment. Together with this trend, the boundaries that used to separate countries are no longer that significant; as a result, more companies are engaged in activities that take place across national borders, which simultaneously changes both the intensity and way of competition. |
