Abstract:
Newspaper headline is the title of a news report and the fundamental part of any piece of news. It is usually described as the "eye" of news reports. From the headline readers could catch the main idea of the news and they can decide whether to read or not. Good headlines attract the readers a lot, presupposition plays the main role. In order to be concise, understandable and influence the readers, adequate presuppositions should be provided. This paper attempts to analyze the efficiency of newspaper headlines, presupposition and functions of pragmatic presupposition in English news headlines. Presupposition is a very important concept in linguistic study. It plays several functions in English news headlines. It can make the language of headlines concise. It can help inform the readers the content of the news and make the headlines more attractive, euphemistic, and humorous. Practically, this study is expected to give a theoretical guidance to the applications of presupposition and assist headline designers to create more appropriate and appealing headlines and facilitate the readers’ understanding of the news.

摘 要:
新闻标题是新闻报道的开头,英语论文题目,同时也是任何一则新闻报道的重要组成部分。新闻标题经常被描述为新闻报道的眼睛。它告知读者新闻的主要内容以便他们能够决定阅读与否。好的新闻标题之所以对读者产生这么大的吸引力,预设起着关键性的影响。为了能够简洁,使读者能够理解并且能够作用读者,新闻标题中需要提供足够的预设。本文尝试略论了新闻标题的效用,预设以及语用预设在英语新闻标题中的影响。预设是语言学探讨中一个重要的概念。语用预设在英语新闻标题中的影响包括:语用预设可以使新闻标题的语言简洁,语用预设可以告知读者新闻的主要内容,通过语用预设的使用也可以使新闻标题产生吸引影响,英语论文范文,委婉影响以及幽默影响。本论文从实践上帮助新闻标题编撰者有效的应用预设这一策略,使标题的语言更实际更科学,更具吸引力,也可以帮助读者更好的理解新闻内容。

1 Introduction
Newspaper headline (NH) is the title of a news report and the fundamental part of any piece of news. Usually, it is used to attract the attention of readers and to keep them well informed of what is happening around world. From the very headline readers could catch the main idea of the news and they can decide whether to read or not. The headline is usually described as the "eye" of news reports. Good headline attracts attention so much so that the readers catch the whole through at once. It is the presupposition that plays the main role here.
