Abstract
Gossip Girl and My Youth Who Call The Shots are two popular TV plays in America and China. The former, based on a series of novels written for teenagers by Cecily von Ziegesar, reflects American young people’s campus life and their love stories; the latter talks about the lives of three Chinese young cousins who have all made transition from youth to adulthood and go in search of freedom, personality and their aspirations. The aim of this paper is to analyze the similarities and differences of American and Chinese young people’s views on marriage and love by contrasting these two TV plays.
This paper compares American view on marriage and love with that of Chinese in these TV plays from the perspective of sociology. Not many research achievements have been made in China and abroad in this field of contrasting different views on marriage and love of American and Chinese young people. Furthermore, no research has been conducted about analysis on similarities and differences of American and Chinese young people’s views on marriage and love from Gossip Girl and My Youth Who Call The Shots. This paper will offer some useful materials and references to the research field of social culture.

Gossip Girl and My Youth Who Call The Shots are two popular TV plays in America and China. Gossip Girl is based on a series of novels written for teenagers by Cecily von Ziegesar. It reflects American young people’s campus life and their love stories. My Youth Who Call The Shots talks about the lives of three Chinese young cousins who have all made transition from youth to adulthood and go in search of freedom, personality and their aspirations. The two TV plays represent the development of two countries’ youth idol drama. They are enjoyed by audience both old and young all over the world. The aim of this paper is to analyze the similarities and differences of Sino-US young people’s views on marriage and love by contrasting these two TV plays.
