Abstract
Religion is a sophisticated topic with long history. Moreover, religious conflicts are one of the most harmful factors which influence the peace of the world. In Europe during the Medieval age, religious belief which was not only the spiritual support of the public, but also the tool used by rulers to manipulate people’s thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, due to the differences among religions, people with distinct beliefs could not understand each other and wars even broke out among countries, which had brought tremendous disasters to the world and caused further hatred among them. A great deal of religious wars can be found in medieval age and the most typical and famous example is the Crusades which last about 200 years. As a result, we can draw a conclusion that the religious conflicts reached its peak during the Crusades and if we want to carry out researches about religious conflicts, the Crusades are very important and useful.
This paper focuses on the analysis of religious conflicts in the Crusades which happened in the medieval age. Firstly, the writer will briefly introduce general condition, background and reasons of the Crusades. Then more specific analysis and enough evidences will be provided on the base of the first section. In this section, the conflicts among the three biggest religions in the world will be listed respectively. In the end, writer will give his own opinions on the religious conflicts and elaborate the influence brought by the conflicts.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the religious conflicts on the background of the Crusades and gain better understanding to the European religions and medieval history, which provides more comprehensive information about religious conflicts to people who are interested in this topic.
