Abstract:
Interlanguage fossilization is an important theory in the study of foreign language acquisition. In the process of the second language acquisition, learners use certain learning strategies to form the dynamic system of language, which is different from its mother language and the target one. With the progress of the study, it can gradually transit to the target language, while some grammar rules and pronunciations, existing in the dynamic system of language, are not easy to change. This article, based on the interlanguage fossilization research overview, explores the reasons of the phenomenon, and puts forward some suggestions on preventing fossilization.

1. Introduction
Interlanguage fossilization has received extensive attention from foreign language researchers for a long time. From the surface of language, it is not in conformity with the rules of the target language. According to the theory of language acquisition analysis, it is inevitable in language learning.
Interlanguage fossilization research has achieved representative results since the 1970s. In 1972,American linguist Selinker put forward the interlanguage hypothesis in his famous paper The Interlanguage. It suggests that learners always use a kind of interlanguage when learning a foreign language and defined as systematic knowledge of language that is independent of both the learner’ system. The hypothesis is an attempt to explore the acquisition of language system and the rule in the process of second language acquisition. In 2017, Ellis put forward the internal cause and external cause of interlanguage fossilization in The Second Language Acquisition and Language Declaration. William Littlewood (England) divided the fossilization into individual and community fossilization according to the characters of the immigrants’ dialect in 1984. He believes that the individual fossilization is earlier than community fossilization, and individual fossilization belongs to the community fossilization. These expressions laid a theoretical basis on the roll of interlanguage fossilization in second language learning.
