Ⅰ. Introduction With the modernization and globalization of the society, communication becomes an important part in people’s life. People need to communicate with foreigners. In order to achieve successful communication, Chinese people need to learn English –the language spoken all around the world to communicate with foreigners. Therefore, nowadays, in the field of English language teaching, more and more teachers in China realized the importance of communication and taught English in a practical way. Now, they use English as medium of instruction completely in fashion. No matter what kind of students they teach, teachers are trying to throw away the Chinese in the class just for the trend. Furthermore, in recent years, teachers used English as medium of instruction in all kinds of open classes or top quality classes. Using Chinese in English classes means that they can not reach the standard of teaching or are not qualified. Therefore, students are taught in English and the Chinese is rejected. But, does it mean the Chinese is eliminated from the class of English in Jinping, a backward county of Guizhou province? No, it does not. According to the conditions of English language teaching and the characteristics of the students in Jinping, I, in this paper, encourage using the Chinese in Jinping and suggest that本论文由英语论文网/ we should take the advantages of the Chinese and control the use of the Chinese in some aspects. Altogether, we should use the teaching approaches according to different students and teachers in the schools of Jinping County.
Ⅱ. The situation in JinPing Jinping County is situated in the east of Guizhou province. The county, including 1591 –sq.km area, has a population of over 210 thousand, 92% of them live on agriculture. Today, there are 17 nationalities including Dongs, Miaos, Hans, and so on. 85% of people in Jinping are national minorities. Jinping is a backward county. In the past, Jinping’s economy mostly depended on china fir, evergreen tree having a pagoda—shaped crown, long lanceolate leaves, unisexual flowers, ball—like fruit, and white, light and fragrant wood useful in architecture or apparatus making. But now, felling natural trees is banned, which challenges Jinping’s economy. What’s more, transportation is inconvenient in Jinping. Road is the only transport to communicate with outside. All of those cause many problems in English teaching. Learners in Jinping are students of elementary school and secondary school. On the one hand, facilities for study are backward. In most schools, teachers teach English with only a textbook, a box of chalks and some test papers. There are no tapes, no videos, no overhead projectors and no computers. Outstanding English teachers and proficient English teachers are assigned to key schools outside Jinping. The remains are teaching with limited, and often incorrect, English. Many of them do not even bother to use English at all. On the other hand, the number of students in a class is too large and at many different levels. Some learners are non-communicative. Even, some students can not understand the English of their teachers.
