Ⅰ.Introduction
1.1 A simple introduction about Kenneth Grahame
Kenneth Grahame was born in Castle Street, Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 8, 1859. He was the third of four children. Once he had a happy family, but after his mother’s death, everything changed. His father, James Cunningham Grahame, left them to their grandmother, Mrs. Ingles, a stern woman who lived in the village of Cookham Dene, Berkshire, on the banks of the Thames.
It is a chance for Kenneth to get close to nature. He spent many hours on the upper reaches of the Thames and it seems that the riverbank may have served the boy as an idyllic refuge from an unhappy childhood. He collected the best writing material at that time. The memory of the beautiful country house and the garden and the riverbank of the Thames provided the background of The Wind in the Willows.
