Abstract:

Charles Dickens is a well-known author who is keen on criticizing the realism in the period of Victoria in England. Meanwhile, David Copperfield is an autobiography among other novels. In this novel, David Copperfield adopts the narrative method of first person to tell his own experiences and we clearly recognize the situation of capitalism by his description.The reason why this novel is his favourite one is that he inputs a large amount of thought and emotion into it, thus he calls this novel as the most spoiled child. This paper firstly analyzes the impact of different characters on David’s different characters in different life stages, and finally studying the David;s characters in different life stages.

1. Introduction
    Dickens, a British writer, lives in an early stage of Victoria. His life and his works keep the pace with the time all the time. As is well-known, Dickens is regarded as one of the most famous writers of the Victoria period. He is considered as the representative of critical realism, so that his works are endowed with these features such as injustice, hypocrisy, corruption and so on. He also praises the good quality of human such as the truth, kindness, and beauty. During his life, he enjoys worldwide fame, gaining the celebration for his unforgettable characters in his fictions. For this reason, Dickens’works become more and more popular and a majority of scholars believe that he is a talent in the literature. From the 1840, Dickens commits himself to traveling and campaigning against the phenomenon of social injustice. What’s more, he also delivers some speeches, writing some books and plays. In the early stage of 1860, he lived at Gadshill Place and died here on June 9, 1870.
