摘要
在十八世纪后期，除了作为主流的现实主义小说，随着霍勒斯•沃波尔《奥特朗托城堡》的问世，哥特式小说在英国也逐渐兴起。广大读者对《奥特朗托城堡》的接受度很高，随后英国众多的小说家开始模仿这种写作风格。从那时起，这种风格的小说在英国开始流行，并在十八世纪九十年代成为文学界的主流，其作用力遍及欧洲和美国，英语毕业论文，在两个世纪交替之际成为西方文学中的一股独特的潮流，也成为英国文学史上最持久，最流行，最有作用力的写作风格之一。
《简•爱》是一部夏洛蒂• 勃朗特的一部具有自传色彩的著名著作。在这部小说中，作者塑造了一位坚强而独立的女性，她敢于追求平等与真爱。时至今日，很多学者从众多角度对这部小说进行了探讨，但是他们都尚未全面且细致的略论人物形象的塑造以及气氛的渲染。正是在这种情况下，本文选择了从哥特写作技巧的应用来阐释这部小说。
本文以哥特理论作为理论基础。首先总结了已有哥特理论的探讨，英语论文题目，包括：“哥特”一词的起源及其意义的发展，哥特文学的起源与发展，以及对哥特文学探讨的发展。之后，本文将从人物形象的塑造以及气氛的渲染两个方面深入略论《简•爱》中的哥特写作风格，并将列举原文典型的例证并略论其写作效果。本文的探讨结果也将作为对《简•爱》探讨的进一步补充。

Abstract
In the late period of the eighteenth century, besides the modernist novel as the mainstream, Gothic emerged as the fresh type of fiction in the British with the issue of Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto .And the novel was well-received by the readers, and was imitated by plenty British novelists. Since then, this type of fiction began to flourish in England, and in the 1790s the Gothic novel became mainstream in the literature field, its influence extending to the European land and The United States, forming the peculiar tide in western world during the joint of the two centuries, becoming one of the most lasting, prevailing,and influential writing form in the British literature history
Jane Eyre is a famous work written by Charlotte Bronte on the basis of her own experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true love and equality. Up to now, numerous researchers have made analysis on it from different perspectives. But they all lack the comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the character building and the highlight of atmosphere. Under this circumstance, this thesis intends to interpret this novel in the way of the Gothic technique writing.
This thesis employs Gothic theory as theoretical foundation. It first gives the previous literature review of the Gothic theories, which will be separated into three parts: the origin and development the term“Gothic”, the origin and development Gothic literature, and the research on Gothic literature. After that, it presents the deep analysis of the Gothic writing in Jane Eyre both from the perspectives of character building and the highlight of atmosphere. It will list some typical examples in the original text and make an analysis of its effect. The result of this thesis will be a supplement to the literature on Jane Eyre.
