Abstract
As one of the most outstanding and creative writers in modern British literature, Katherine Mansfield has gained a lot of attention with her short stories focusing on trivial matters in daily life. Her short stories are characterized by conspicuous modernism with vivid and beautiful language and a sense of humor. She is adept at using modernistic writing skills to depict the themes of her stories and the personalities of her characters, and makes bold attempts to blend in her own innovation, step by step forming her own unique writing style which has played a contributing role in the development of modernistic short stories and made them gradually move towards maturity. This paper mainly probes into the modernistic features of Mansfield’s short stories, including symbolism, narrative skills and stream of consciousness.
In this thesis, three chapters are included. Chapter one introduces the definition of symbolism, and elaborates on how symbolism of plants and animals are used in Mansfield’s short stories. Chapter two analyzes from three aspects the narrative techniques used in her writing: the first person narrative, the third person narrative, and multiple narrative mode. Chapter three introduces the definition of stream of consciousness, and analyzes the interior monologue, dreamland and subconsciousness which appear in her short stories. Though the above analysis, the thesis concludes that the success of Mansfield’s short stories is closely related to the artful application of the modernistic writing techniques.

摘 要
作为现代英国文学界中最杰出和最具创造力的作家之一，凯瑟琳•曼斯菲尔德的短篇小说以描写日常的生活琐事而备受瞩目，她的短篇小说有着明显的现代主义特征，英语论文网站，语言生动、优美，英语毕业论文，并且富有幽默感。她善于应用许多现代主义的写作技巧来描写小说的主题和人物的性格。她大胆的尝试融入了自己的创新，逐步形成了自己特有的写作风格，在现代主义短篇小说占有一席之地并使其逐渐走向成熟。本论文主要研讨了曼斯菲尔德短篇小说著作中的现代主义特征，包括有象征手法、叙述手法、意识流。
本文包含三个章节。第一章介绍了象征手法的定义，并阐述了在曼斯菲尔德短篇小说中植物和动物象征的应用。第二章节从第一人称叙述、第三人称叙述和多角度叙述三个方面略论了叙述手法在小说中的应用。第三章介绍了意识流的定义，并略论了小说中出现的内心独白、梦境与潜意识。论文通过略论，指出曼斯菲尔德的短篇小说的成功和她关于现代主义写作技巧巧妙应用密切相关。
