Abstract
Jane Eyre is a typical feminism work written by Charlotte Bronte. The book is about Jane’s struggling in a hostile society. Mr Rochester was fascinated by Jane, and they fell in love. The Wide Sargasso Sea, regarded as Jane Eyre’s prequel, is written by Jean Ryrs. The book introduces the mad woman in the attic, who is Rochester’s mysterious wife in Jane Eyre. At present, at home and abroad, studies of Jane Eyre mainly focuses on feminist themes, or the heroine’s characteristics. And studies of The Wide Sargasso Sea mainly concentrate on its post colonialism theme. The studies on Rochester, the common hero of the two books mainly concentrate on his characteristics. There is few studies related to the hero's attitudes towards women and marriage in the two books.
Rochester’s attitudes towards women changed from “control” to “respect”, which coincidentally conforms to the trend of feminism. Besides, he was unaware of the meaning of marriage at the beginning, but he became very responsible for his second marriage; thus he gained happy life. Therefore, the study provides guidance for modern people’s love and marriage. This paper is divided into three parts. Part one contains a brief introduction to Jane Eyre and The Wide Sargasso Sea. Part two mainly analyzes changes of Rochester’s attitudes towards women. The last part introduces Rochester’s change of attitudes towards his two marriages.

摘 要
《简•爱》是夏洛蒂•勃朗特典型的女性主义著作,写的是简与怀有敌意的社会的抗争。罗切斯特被简所吸引，两人坠入爱河。《藻海无边》是吉安•里斯的著作，它被视为《简•爱》前篇，英语论文题目，主要介绍了“阁楼上的疯女人”，即《简•爱》中罗切斯特神秘的妻子。当前，国内外关于《简•爱》的探讨主要集中在女性主义主题或者对女主人公简•爱性格特点的略论上面。关于《藻海无边》的探讨则集中于后殖民主义主题。而关于这两部著作中共同的男主角―罗切斯特的略论主要集中在对他性格的略论。然而几乎没有对罗切斯特在这两部著作中对女性及婚姻态度变化的探讨。
探讨发现，罗切斯特对女性的态度从极强的控制欲逐渐变成了尊重，这一点正好与女性主义思潮契合。而且，关于婚姻，罗切斯特由最初的不清楚婚姻的意义变得对婚姻有一种责任感，正是这种变化给他带来了极大的幸福。因此本文也为现代人的婚姻爱情提供了指导。本论文主要分为三部分，第一部分简要介绍《简•爱》和《藻海无边》以及它们的作者。第二部分，略论罗切斯特对女性态度的变化。第三部分，介绍罗切斯特对两段婚姻的态度变化。
