Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby vividly depicts American society in the early 20th century, reveals people’s spiritual disorientation and moral bankruptcy, and expresses the author’s disappointment to the disillusionment of one generation’s moral ideal. The novel also shows the disillusion of “American Dream” in the 1920s. In the American society of 1920s, the people were in total depravity.
