Abstract:

This thesis aims to explore the narrative techniques effectively applied in Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece The Great Gatsby. Based on the theory of modern narratology, it analyzes the novel’s narrative techniques from the perspective of the point of view of narration, the pattern of narration and the structure of narration. Due to the great success of this masterpiece, Fitzgerald achieves a high status in the literary world. Apart from splendid plots, exquisite wording and vivid characters, the excellent narrative techniques also contribute to the success of the novel. By analyzing the narrative techniques adopted in the novel.,this study aims to explore the profound artistic charm and deepen the understanding of the novel’s theme.

摘要:

本文以现代叙事学理论为依据,英语毕业论文,从叙事视角,叙事手法和叙事结构三个方面来论述美国作家菲茨杰拉德的名著《了不起的盖茨比》中所成功应用的叙事技巧。《了不起的盖茨比》的成功,除了跌宕起伏的情节、精湛准确的语言以及饱满生动的人物形象外,其中的叙事技巧更是功不可没。作家独具匠心的叙事技巧,在很大的程度上使《了不起的盖茨比》成为一部经典之作。本文旨在通过对小说中叙事技巧的探讨,探究其深邃的艺术魅力,英语论文,加深对小说主题的理解。

1. Introduction
1.1 Brief Introduction to Fitzgerald and The Great Gatsby
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald is a famous American author of novels and short stories. He was born in 1896 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to an upper-middle-class family. He entered Princeton University with the financial aid of relatives. In 1917, he left before graduating to serve in the US Army in Alabama, where he can not help falling in love with a charming and vain girl, Zelda Sayre. In 1919, Fitzgerald was discharge from the army and then he took a job in an advertising agency and wrote short stories for it. He had become well-known by publishing the full-length novel This Side of Paradise in 1920. Fitzgerald won a great status in the modern American literature through the publication of the novel The Great Gatsby in 1925. Frustrated by the failure of his writing career, Fitzgerald drank to excess and grew seriously ill and finally died in 1940. He coined the term Jazz Age. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century and considered a member of the "Lost Generation" of the 1920s.
