Abstract
Based on her own life experience, creationary practice and litteratrices’ brisk gender consciousness, Virginia Woolf made great efforts to detect the relation between females and literary creation, conjecturing dilemmas of traditional women’s culture and literature and indicating the close relationship between women’s literature and their social life. Giving a positive evaluation to both the practice and theory of women’s literature, she picked the traditional of women’s literature and developed the theme and form as well. Her creative point that “androgyny” was the perfect state for literary creation as well as a great way to dissolve diversities between men and women aroused intense responses and long-playing discussions among the literary world. Her vanward view of literary criticism not only had a instructional effect on the women’s literary creation at the time, but also indicated the trend of development of feminist literary criticism.
This thesis tries to comb through the feminist thoughts embodied in Virginia Woolf’s “To the lighthouse”, and to conduct a relatively integrated analysis of her feminist criticism concepts as well as her impact on Western feminist theories of a later generation.
Key Words: androgyny feminist Virginia Woolf

1 Introduction
To the lighthouse has long been regarded as a representative work of Virginia Woolf both as a work of stream of consciousness and as a work that shows Woolf’s feminist perspectives. Having been interpreted in the light of stream of consciousness for a long time, To the Lighthouse was “rediscovered” by the 1960s feminists and has been leading the way of feminist literary criticism ever since. The purpose of the thesis is to probe into Woolf’s feminist thoughts. |
