Abstract
Focused on the concept of metaphor by Lakoff and based on the differences between traditional and cognitive metaphor, this paper probes the classification, connotation and pragmatic meaning of conceptual metaphor in English idioms. By recognizing the orientational metaphor, ontological metaphor and structural metaphor, it studies the variety of connotation, characteristics and performance to better understand and grasp the essence of idioms. This paper is expected to improve learners' ability of cognitiveness, language thinking and communication, which will eventually help us find metaphor in idioms, stimulate the interest to learn phrase language and to use idioms with creativity.

本文将以Lakoff的概念隐喻为理论,在对比传统和认知隐喻的区别的基础上,深入探索习语中的概念隐喻分类、内涵及其语用意义。通过辨认习语中的方位隐喻、本体隐喻和结构隐喻,探讨其多种内涵、特征及表现,认识和把握习语中的本质,从而提高学习者的认知能力,语言思维能力及交际能力,使自己具备发觉习语概念隐喻的能力,激发学习习语的兴趣和创造性活用习语的能力。

As early as 2017 years ago, metaphor as linguistic phenomena was well noticed by scholars. Traditionally, metaphor is viewed as a matter of language, a set of extraordinary or figurative expressions whose meaning is confined to some set of literal propositions. In the past few decades, however, the situation has undergone a radical change. The interest in metaphor has grown rapidly in a broad range of disciplines. And this change is observed as metaphormania. Metaphor has already moved from a subsidiary subject to a central problem.
