Abstract: Uncle Tom’s Cabin is a representative work of American Abolition Movement. The mulattos described in the novel are kind, intelligent and rebellious.Eliza is the symbol of kindness. George is equipped with intelligence and great ability. He is also a bright and talented young mulatto man, when he is working in a bagging factory. What’ s more, faced with discriminations and inequalities, the mulattos choose to struggle and struggle as they did. The writer Stowe shows her positive attitude towards mulattos. The mulattos are regarded as exuberant character in the novel. They inherit the strong constitution of blacks and the noble sentiments of whites. And the mulattos are also regarded as whites to some extent. Though as a writer, her description of submissive blacks exposes her racial bias against that black people; her progressive thought was beyond the limitation of that time. |
