Abstract
Gone with the wind, Margaret Mitchell’s masterpiece, mainly describes the life of protagonist Scarlet during the America Civil War with the hint of a triangular love between Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett. Meanwhile the novel depicts a wide and prosperous picture of the social life in the South of America. This thesis aims to analyze Scarlett’s complex characters. She is characterized by her complex and multiple personalities including bravery, rebellion, selfishness, greed and so on. And the factors contributing to the development of Scarlett’s character are analyzed.
