以往学者们关于如何提高学生听力能力进行了大量的探讨,英语毕业论文,然而多数都是围绕听力本身在做探讨,英语毕业论文,例如听力技能和策略训练等,却没有对所听到的听力语言材料所处的语境给予足够的关注。
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study In the increasingly competitive environment,English proficiency is more important for students in today’s society than before.Listening is one of the most important skills in the process of learning English, which is always regarded as a weak-link part for English learners. On the one hand, many students only focus on the study of vocabulary and grammar, but neglect the learning of English listening. On the other hand,it has been a long time that English teachers focus on teaching students language knowledge;however, they ignore students’communicative ability. In the process of English listening practice, most students focus only on the literal meaning of the words. They can not truly understand the more deep-seated meaning behind the words. Thus it will inevitably lead to the situation that the student can not understand the real intention of the speaker. It also can produce certain deviation in the understanding of whole text.To a great extent, the improvement of students’ ability of listening comprehension depends on the effectiveness of listening teaching. Therefore,in the English listening class, the teacher should not only pay attention to the teaching of language knowledge, but also pay attention to the cultivation of students’ability of language learning and communicative in order to obtain better teaching effect.Neo-Conversational Implicature is one of the important issues of Pragmatics that studies expectations among different communities regarding how meaning is constructed.American linguistic philosopher,H.P.Grice,first formulated it in the 1960s and the proposition of the theory initiated the study of Pragmatic inference. Grice’s theory of Neo-Conversational Implicature proceeds from the speaker, proposes the view of intentional communication, and assumes that the hearer would draw the implicature of the speaker’s utterance when the speaker violates the Cooperative Principle intentionally. As an important part of Pragmatics,American linguist Grice’s Neo-Conversational Implicature theory tells us that the speaker often uses words with conversational implication for different purpose. Therefore,in order to improve the students’competence of understanding and analyzing theconversational implication of words,it is necessary to apply the Pragmatic knowledge in the teaching of English listening.
1.2 Objective and Significance of the Study Currently, the domestic and foreign scholars have achieved great accomplishments in the pragmatic research of applying the pragmatic knowledge in the teaching of English listening. Most of the researchers only focus on the theoretical study, however, they seldom attach any importance to empirical research. The innovation of this thesis lies in two aspects. On the one hand,it aims to explore the feasibility of combining the English listening teaching with the theory of Neo-Conversational Implicature and trying to explore a more effective listening teaching mode through empirical study. On the other hand, this kind of research has been conducted merely among university students or high school students instead of vocational college students. So,more attention should be paid to vocational college students. This thesis here tries to apply the Neo-Conversational Implicature to listening teaching in vocational |
