1.1 Background of the Research
Vocabulary, one of the three elements which constitute the language, is the core oflanguage, and the most basic and most important factor in language. “All languages areformed by vocabulary , vocabularies build up phrases, sentences, utterances and writings.Syntax is composed during the process of making phrases and sentences… (Ma Guanghui,2017: 22). ”A language can not be called “language” if it is without expressions and phrases.Further, none of languages in the world can exist independently without vocabulary. Wordsimpact on the understanding and application of languages. “People who master the minimumstructures but have a lot of words are more favorable in reading comprehension and basicsyntax communication than ones master most structures but have few words (Celce-Murcia,M& F. Rosensweig, cited in Zhan Shanshan, 2017,英语论文题目,英语论文题目,174-176)” .Although vocabulary teaching is very significant in the whole English teaching process,there are some shortages and deficiency. The situation of vocabulary teaching is not optimistic.For example, vocabulary teaching becomes mere formality, not attracting enough attention.There remains the lack of systematic and effective vocabulary teaching strategies,emphasizing on grammar explanations ignoring the cultivation of students’ self-learningability leads to some problems, the first one is that students remember vocabularies withblindness and arbitrariness, and the second one is the lack of clear vocabulary learningobjectives. Hence these factors impede the improvement of students’ English learningabilities.

1.2 Significance of the Research
This research focuses on the relationship between English vocabulary learning strategiesand English reading strategies. It has meaningful significance both theoretically andrealistically. During these years, the studies abroad and at home on the relationship between readingstrategies and vocabulary learning strategies have reached a lot of achievements, especiallyfor second language acquisition and learning. Many applications of vocabulary associationstrategies on English teaching have been conducted, but few of them focus on the relationshipbetween association strategy and reading strategies. So the paper intends to have a betterunderstanding about the correlation between then through detailed literature review of theprevious studies and researches. Vocabulary is one of the three elements constitute the language, the core of language, andthe most basic and most important factor in language. Both of the size of mastered vocabularyand strong degree of memory influence people’s language skills and language ability directly.In this sense, the mastery of vocabulary status stands for the foreign language proficiency andforeign language application level in a certain extent.
