I. Introduction
At present, the study about reporting verbs is basically developed between Direct Speech and Indirect Speech. In fact, the function or the practical application of the Reporting verb means to report what others have said. While indirect speech, as an indispensable part, plays a more important role in language study. Therefore, reporting verbs necessarily are paid close attention by many scholars, and have been detailed in many grammar books, thesis and academic lectures, for instance Verb / Object / Infinite (e.g. advice), Verb / Infinite (e.g. refuse), and Verb / (that) (e.g. boast). This kind of study is made in terms of sentence structure, which can effectively help students grasp the change direct speech into indirect speech.
Reporting verbs, however, have been studied widely in connection with academic discourse but seldom studied in news reports. News reporters often need to quote others’ speech, for example, “the foundation’s spokesman said the idea was to point out what he called the hypocrisy of all these awards”…. There are many records about reporting verbs in news report. But what relationships exist between news reports and reporting verbs? And how do we understand reporting? This thesis will be developed from these questions and aim at the feature of the news reports, the definition of the reporting verbs, the tendency of the word meaning, and finally the influence of reporting verbs. 
II. Reporting Verbs in English News Report

As the social, political and economic factors change, the coverage of this special genre of discourse causes more and more debates among researchers. On the one hand people should take into account the characteristics of this style, that is, objectivity. When reporting, reporters should be objective, neutral and free of any bias in the coverage of events. On the other hand they should attend to the external role such as the reader’s feeling, circulation, political viewpoints and so on. We, therefore, consider that it is necessary to pay attention to the changes of news discourse and study it systematically. In recent years, more and more scholars concentrate on studying the body of English literature, such as advertising language, legal literature and poetry structure. It can be said that there is a growing concern about the application of the language. The traditional sense of studying the English news reports has been focusing on its rhetoric means.
Reporting takes up an important length in the news report. Reporting verbs have always been considered to strengthen the truth and objectivity of news report and have occupied indispensable role in the report. Reporting verbs are an important aspect of citation and the use of reporting verbs is one of the focal points which scholars have followed with interest. Some scholars point out that citation can be defined only when it is in its context. Reporting verb is the most direct context which constitutes the citation and can indicate and dominate the meaning of the citation. Some scholars analyze reporting verbs in terms of feelings, because reporting verbs reflect reporters’ attitudes and standpoints. The aim of the paper is to check the feature of citation from the statistics and analysis of the corpus.
