Chapter I   Introduction 

1.1 The background of research 
As  is  known  to  all,  grammar  plays  an  important  role  in  language  acquisition. Language acquisition is  just like building a house. Vocabulary  is bricks and grammar is concrete  irons,  which  is  the  key  to  the  structure  construction.  Mastering  grammar  can help  to  use  language  much  easier  and  can  help  to  improve  the  ability  to  employ  the language.  In  the  middle  school,  especially  in  the  senior  middle  school,  mastering  basic grammatical knowledge can make a big difference in English study later on. It is obvious that grammar teaching in senior middle school is of great significance. However,  English  grammar  teaching  in  senior  middle  school,  especially  the grammar teaching in senior three has always been a tough problem. Traditional grammar teaching mainly focuses on the memorizing of the grammatical rules and items and doing exercises  using  them,  neglecting  its  communicating  function.  Students  feel  it  boring  to study grammars and teachers find it hard to teach grammar efficiently in senior three.     In  the  English  Curriculum  Standards  for  Senior  High  Schools  (2017),   it  is required  that  senior  high  school  students  should  learn  and  master  English  basic language  knowledge,  including  phonetics,  vocabulary,  grammar,  function  and  topics five  aspects.  (The  Ministry  of  Education,  2017:14)   The  requirements  indicate  that proper  grammar  teaching  methods  should  be  employed  to  meet  the  new  curriculum standards.  However,  traditional  grammar  teaching  method  based  on  sentences  is  still being used in most classes.

1.2Purpose and significance of the research
The  research  of  this  topic  is  to  meet  the  requirements  of  the  English  Curriculum Standards  for  Senior  High  Schools  and  to  satisfy  the  requirements  of  the  new test  type, grammatical  filling,  improving  the  grammar  teaching  in  senior  three.  Therefore,  it  aims to  try  to  find  a  proper  method  in  grammar  teaching  in  senior  three,  helping  students  to learn  effectively  and  improve  their  ability  to  use  grammar  knowledge  comprehensively in the discourse.
