光明和Mc格雷戈尔(1970:52)说:“有一些阅读有贬低的语言学习。”在语言学习的四项技能中,阅读是一般认为语言学家和语言教育工作者的状态在语言习得的阅读的重要性语言习得中非常重要的输入方式。克拉申的自然法理论的基础上通过接触可理解的输入能力建设也表明了阅读价值:“读数可能会导致在第二语言的能力 Importance of reading in language acquisitionAs Bright and McGregor (1970: 52) state that “Where there is little reading there will belittle language learning.” Among the four skills of language learning, reading is generallybelieved by linguists and language educators as a very important input way in languageacquisition.Krashen's theory of the Natural Approach which is based on building competence throughexposure to comprehensible input also indicates the value of reading: “reading may contributesignificantly to competence in a second language. There is good reason; in fact, to hypothesizethat reading makes a contribution to overall competence, to all four skills” (Krashen & Terrel,1983: 131). Reading benefits grammatical knowledge and vocabulary development andconsequently overall competence increases. Reading is defined as “a complex information processing skill in which the readerinteracts with text so as to (re)create meaningful discourse” (Silberstein 2017: 12), “meaningreading and understanding” (Ur 2017: 138). Without reading, nothing can be done in the development of competence in listening, speaking and writing. In anutshell, reading and language learning are interdependent, reading necessitates linguisticBeing the most widely taught, read, and spoken language in the world, English hasbecome the international language as it is spoken both by a large number of native andnon-native speakers of other languages; it serves as a language of wider communication andhas achieved a genuinely global status as a result of its special role recognized in every country.Under such circumstances, greater importance has also been attached to English teaching inChina. In the traditional view, language used to be thought as two independent systems:vocabulary and grammar. This concept has deeply rooted in the context of English teaching inChina. For quite a long time, Chinese English teaching has been revolving around thegrammar-translation approach.
