1.1探讨背景

To live, work or study in English speaking countries, togo on travel or do business with English speakers, to attend international conferences onthe latest development in science and technology for academic and cultural exchanges, tohold peace talks and political negotiations with other countries, or even to surf online athome, none of these can be carried out without a good command of the English language.
A recent survey shows that each year more than 90% of the world publication is in English;80% of the stuff on the Internet is delivered through English. We are greatly influenced bysuch unavoidable factors and forces in this global society. To become an internationalindividual, we undoubtedly reach the point that we must learn and improve our Englishconstantly.Although many English learners spend much time on English study, they oftencomplain that words they have just learned are just not sticking with them. Some learnershave difficulties in retaining many sorts of language points and memorizing variousgrammatical structures in terms of taking the approaching exams. Some feel quiteembarrassed to open their mouth talking with foreigners in English. Some can not catch themeaning of certain listening materials.
Some actually do not wish or even hate to learn thelanguage; they are forced to choose the course because of the graduation requirement.Therefore, the outcome of English teaching and learning is far from being satisfactory. Wemay wonder what the reasons are. Affective factors, one of the vital theories in the field ofeducation and Psychology, may cast light on this kind of learning predicament.While in China, most learners' affective factors have not gained enough attention inthe English learning process. Under such circumstance. Crazy English causes a greatsensation throughout the English teaching and learning field for its craziness and its takinggood advantage of English learners' affective factors to help people to learn and toconquer English. Within years the Crazy English Movement has swept throughout thewhole China, and then spread to other countries in Southeast Asia and even into theEnglish speaking countries. The creator, Li Yang, managed to stir up a huge turbulentStorm to learn English and entice billions of people into shouting and yelling English in thestate of losing their mind.

How did Li Yang, a non-English major underachiever from a remote college in therelatively backward Northwestern part of China, stir up such a huge turbulent storm? Howcould he manage to entice billions of people, both old and young, into shouting Englishlike out of their mind? Does the huge magic power which makes Li Yang Crazy Englishbecome a hit lie in its effective utilization of affective factors? The aim of this study is towork out the answers to the following questions:
1. What are the main factors that make Li Yang Crazy English popular and what areits theoretical bases and characteristics in its teaching methodology?
2. What influence do affective factors, such as motivation, attitude, anxiety andself-confidence have on learners' English learning achievements?
