Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Rationale for the Research
As the “essence” of research articles, the English Abstract has got much attention from the foreign scholars (Swales1990; Bhatia1993; Kaplanetal 1994) and many influential achievements have been published. The domestic scholars started the research relatively late. However, with the combined efforts of our researchers in the editor circle, publishing world and the linguistic field in dozens of years, remarkable achievements have been made in both depth and width. Most of these researches cast their eyes on the composition standard, the genre and linguistic features (the tense, voice, sentence, vocabulary, etc). An economic journal is defined as an academic journal open to the public dissemination, using the text as a media to show the systematic, comprehensive and theoretical thoughts from the economic thought, views and knowledge summarized from people’s practice activities of material production and economic behavior. It is also the fastest growing, up-to-date, and most promising publication. Up to now, the researches on the economic journals still remain relatively unexplored, especially the study on linguistic features of the economic journals from the perspective of systemic functional grammar. Therefore, finding out the distinctions in the English abstract writing of economic journals between the Chinese and native speakers of English can help to bring useful advice to improve the writing level of the Chinese economic researchers and college students in economic major.

1.2 Significance of the Research
This paper will try to show that how “speakers” of the English abstracts in the economic journals written by the CLE (Chinese learners of English) and NSE (native speakers of English) express their experiences, inner activities and make their participation in the situational context under the control of the abstract genre. How they reflect their attitudes and affect other people's opinions and behavior, that is, to show the illocutionary phenomenon through language. The author tries to let readers know the influence on the choice of the ideational meaning’s construction according to the differences of cultural backgrounds and target readers. A data-based approach is applied in this thesis. Both of the two self-built equal-sized database,英语论文范文,英语毕业论文 |
