The regulations of slavery in the United States of America derived from the eighteenth century, these regulations had an enormous impact on the American’s living quality. There are definitely a considerable number of reason why American wants to keep slavery. This is going to probe into the slaver world in a lot more details in order to figure out what benefits that slavery brought to the United States so that the readers who read this will have a better understanding in regards to it.
The history of America is very strange and very different from other countries in this current world. As it has been known to everyone of us, America did not set up feudalism, instead, it grew itself into a capitalist country in the first place. At that period of time, this nation contained two relationships, namely primitive society as well as capitalism (Ernesto, 1971). Afterwards, slavery began to appear. Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president in the United States of America, did not issue
“The Emancipation Proclamation” until he was afraid that his presidency would be taken place by one of the slaves. People are very likely to wonder why American residents were not inclined to abolish slavery.
First and foremost, slavery means free workforce, that is to say, American businessmen and businesswomen would not have to worry about remunerations for those workers who had to work extremely hard in order to survive. Contemporarily, there is nothing that is more expensive than human workforce, some factories or companies had to reduce their profits so that they are able to pay for their employees. However, this situation was completely different in the past when slavery was still legal and prevalent in the United States of America. It is clear that almost every rich people had a slave at that period of time, and they were able to commend their slaves to do whatever they wanted them to do. They could ask their slaves to cook for them. However, more importantly, they would ask their slaves to work for them. There were a wide range of capitalists who had a passionate desire to invest in farming, for the reason that they reckoned that farming would render them earn more money. But, there came a question that how the workforce came from, since doing farming was a tough job, not everyone at that time wanted to do this job. People would not be willing to do farming if they were not starving. Even if those capitalists were willing to share some fields to the farmers, those farmers were reluctant to accept it. Hence, slavery seemed to be the main source of workforce. Slavery was free, those capitalists did not have to pay for them, what those capitalists needed to do was just to give them some food so that they would not die. We can imagine why America could be developed so fast now, because they did not have to pay money for their workforce, the profits were all theirs. There is no wonder that America became the most mighty and the most affluent country in spite of the fact that this nation only had several hundred years’ history. China had more than five thousand years’ history, but it still can not be as rich as America is. Having been able to earn a lot of money without fearing the costs of workforce, Americans could certainly enjoy their lives to their hearts’ content. Money is the best thing that slavery brought to American citizens, they might not be able to earn money for their master, but they were capable of creating money for their masters.
Furthermore, the main character of slavery is free workforce, as it has been mentioned previously. When it comes to slavery, the “Plantation Economy” should definitely be discussed. During the eighteen century, American residents relied largely on the farming which maintained their survival. Among all the products that Americans mainly manufactured, cottons as well as tobaccos occupied the biggest proportion. As we know, planting cottons is never an easy job, on the contrary, farmers would have to take special care of cottons in order to make sure that they would not die. At that time, there were only approximately four million dwellers living in America (Jim, 1965). Meaning to say, a vast territory with a sparse population can express the situation at that time clearly. However, if American employers spent too much money on hiring workers to plant those cottons, it was unquestionable that they would earn less money, and other countries would not be willing to but cotton from America as well. Therefore, slaver was the best way to tackle this problem. Free workforce had not only increase the profits that they could have, but also make the price of cottons in this country become a lot more competitive.
In a nutshell, the slavery in the USA did have a positive impact on Americans to a tremendous extent. Without the free workforce that the slavery brought, America would have not been so rich and mighty. The living quality had been improved greatly by the slavery. Thus, we can easily come to a conclusion that the Slavery in the United States of America has helped its residents earn more money and live in a better circumstances.
