Thesis statement:
The World War I not only destroyed the home-front people’s peaceful life, but also destroyed the rotten state apparatus.
Introduction
As is known to all, every war means a disaster to the people especially to the home-front people. In the history river, two world wars bring much pain to the human beings. World War I started at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Why did it break out? The deep factor is the unbalanced development in the capital world. The imperialist countries sought their interests in the world by serious wars. Among the imperialist countries, the conflict between France and German, the conflict between Russia and Austro-Hungary and the conflict between England and German were the most serious. These countries owned much wealth and had the ambition to role the world in order to get the extra interests to support their development. On the 28th June in the year 1914, Archduke Ferdinard of Austro-Hungary was killed by gun in Sarajevo, which was the blasting fuse of the World War I. Based on this fuse, Austro-Hungary announced war to Serbia. Then German, Russia, France and England began to involve the war. The World War I had three sections. In December in the year 1918, German announced surrender and the World War ended.
A disaster to the home-front people
Reviewing the World War I, we can find it how painful for the home-front people. The World War I was a disaster to the home-front people because it destroyed the fundamental basis and caused much ignorant death. The four-year World War I involved more than 30 countries. And 1.5 billion people suffered from the war. About 30,000,000 people were wounded. The direct economic loss was about 34,000,000 dollars. (Marshall, 34-123) In the four-year World War, many countries broke out local wars and many places were destroyed by the war. From some historical records, it is easy to find that many houses were destroyed and many fundamental basis were destroyed as well. We could not imagine how painful the people were. Among the home-front people, the people in the developing countries were the most pitiful group. The developing countries had been the colonies for many years. So they were as the origin of the resources and raw material to the colonists for many years. When the World War I broke out, they suffered more and got more pain caused from the war. On one hand, they were oppressed to produce much cheaper raw material, which caused their poverty. On the other hand, their country was as the war place where the imperialist countries fought for interest. We can see many meltdown houses in the movies which described the World War I. Many women and children were killed in the war. So it is obvious that World War I is a disaster to the home-front people.
Humanitarianism crisis in the war
The World War I made many refugees escaped and caused humanitarianism crisis. During to the war, many places were destroyed and the people lost their houses and their daily material insurance. The war made them leave their hometown and escaped to other places. However, the places where the war did not happen could not accommodate all these people due to the limitation of the substance involving the food, the shelter and other daily necessity. This would cause many conflicts among the people. Many disadvantaged groups would be killed or pushed aside by the advantaged groups. So we can often see some pitiful children need to tolerant hunger and coldness. The people in the war lost their basic humanity and principles. They might seek their life by fair means or foul. So we often hear of some shocked news from the war. For instance, some armed personnel would kill the disadvantaged groups in order to get more food and other daily necessity. And meanwhile, some colonists would kill many refugees who were the threat to their safety.
The end to the rotten state apparatus
We talked about the bad effect on the home-front people above. We cannot deny the evil crimes brought by the colonists. And meanwhile, we will find the World War I also made many people in the developing countries especially the colonial countries awaken. The rotten state apparatus had ruled the countries for many years. Due to its decayed social regime, the country faced many problems from the inner and out factors. In the country, the common people could not get their equal rights to support their daily life, which made them feel so depressed and annoyed about the country. What is more, the potentate oppressed the common people which made the common people fight with him. Under this condition, the rotten state apparatus was trapped into the awkward situation. The World War I accelerated the step of the end of the rotten state apparatus. To some degree, it made the common people fight for their rights with the potentate. With the assistance of the external force, the rotten state apparatus was overturned and the common people built their own social institutes on their own. Besides, the World War I made more people gather together to fight with the invasion. All the people who loved peace spared their efforts to struggle with the colonists, which was the positive effect brought by the war.
Conclusion
To sum up, it is obvious that the World War I was a disaster to the home-front people. It destroyed the houses and the fundamental basis, which made the home-front people lost the basic daily necessity. Besides, the World War I made many refugees escaped and caused humanitarianism crisis. Many people especially the disadvantaged groups were killed by the colonists and other external forces. However, though the World War I was an evil disaster, it had some positive effect on the change of the state apparatus. It overturned the rotten state apparatus and made the home-front people have their own choice to build their own ideal country.
