Duquesne University is a four-year private Catholic university, established in 1878. It is the first Catholic university in Pennsylvania, the nation's leading Catholic university. Currently the United States is remaining the only one run by the Roman Catholic doctrine "Holy father" and "student services equivalent to the service of God," .  The university located in the east coast of the United States, Pennsylvania downtown Pittsburgh. Ten College consists, including Business School, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Arts and colleges. Duquesne University is diversified , including the international students for many countries.

Mission
Duquesne serves God by serving students through commitment to excellence in liberal and professional education, profound concern for moral and spiritual values ,maintaining an ecumenical atmosphere open to diversity, attentiveness to global concerns ,service to the Church, the community, the nation, and the world. For my own perspective, these mission is wise because as a Catholic university which was founded by memebers of Congregation of the Holy Spirit, the Spiritans,it is beneficial for it to sustain a relationship with laity and religious aspects.
In particular, sustainability is intrinsic to Duquesne University’s mission — a charge that encompasses what our Spiritan sponsors call the “integrity of creation,” a profound respect for God’s gift of the world. One of the many ways that the University advances this mission is through responsible stewardship of natural resources.  Duquesne’s progressive efforts to achieve, maintain and advance high environmental standards began decades ago. We remain committed to sustainable principles in the ongoing management and development of our campus.

Vision
Duquesne University will consolidate its position in the first ranks of American Catholic higher education by a University-wide emphasis on our Spiritan mission and identity, enhancement of the quality of our students’ experience, and development of our national reputation for academic excellence. Our goals will be achieved throughout the University—in the lives of students, among faculty and staff, and in all administrative units.

Overarching Goals

There are ten statements serve as an expression of the core values of Duquesne University, which could be described as goals because they will guide our actions and will be reflected in the lives of everyone in the Duquesne community. Firstly, our extraordinary and pervasive sense of mission as a Spiritan Catholic university will be the guide for all Duquesne University does.Secondly, ethics will be central for the University both theoretically and practically. Thirdly, Leadership and the development of leadership skills will be a core focus.  Forth, Duquesne University will become an increasingly diverse community and sustain an environment in which human diversity is valued. Fifth, service to others will be an essential theme in all our efforts. Next, respect for the environment  will shape both academic and business decisions.Next, There will be responsible stewardship of all University resources—human, financial and physical. Moreover, assessment will be coordinated University-wide and used as a means of planning. In addition ,there will be a new emphasis on Africa and the African diaspora. In addition, a culture of excellence will be created and sustained through policies, practices and habits that assure continuous improvement.

Growth
Duquesne University was founded in 1878 by a group of Catholic missionaries also known as the Spiritans.  From humble beginnings as a school for the children of Pittsburgh's poor immigrants, Duquesne today is an educational and economic powerhouse comprising ten schools of study that serve more than 10,000 students.  founded on Oct. 1, 1878, as Pittsburgh Catholic College by the Rev. Joseph Strub and the Congregation of the Holy Ghost, it changed the name to Duquesne University of the Holy Ghost. The university's first professional school, the School of Law, was also established this year in 1911, following with the  establish of five additional schools : Business, Pharmacy, Music, Education, and Nursing. Between 1990 and 2017, there are some new process and growth for the University . It opened its first new schools in 50 years: the John G. Rangos Sr. School of Health Sciences, the Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences; and the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement.  New spaces for classrooms, offices and residence halls; parking garages and the Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field were also developed. In January 2017 Duquesne expanded its footprint onto Forbes Avenue with the dedication of the Power Center. This new five-story building, named for Duquesne's first president, Spiritan Fr. William Patrick Power, includes an 80,000 sq. ft. fitness center, banquet facilities, retail shops, restaurant and a Barnes and Noble bookstore.
Outcompeting rivals
In a more and more competitive environment, The outcompeting rivals appears for several times. Therefore, the university of Euquesne  should find out its strengths to remain the leader position in such competitive conditions. Firstly, Class sizes are small, despite the size of student body. Secondly, the location of campus is excellent with the convenient transportation. Thirdly, the quality of education is outstanding in the USA or even the whole world. Next, the large number of extracurricular activities attract more and more students all over the world. Moreover, good job placement is something magic make people apply for this university. Except for all of this , the good, safety and gym building are also something advantages for the student.

Managing functional areas
There is no specific description about the managing functional areas;therefore, some suggestion are given in terms of this problem. Firstly, set the efficient selection and elimination system. Because of the existence of competition, it is necessary. It would provide evidences for the selection of high school level students, employers organizations to select the superior and to eliminate the inferior. Secondly, different the placement is important. One of the main purpose of teaching evaluation is to demonstrate the level of students' knowledge level and learning ability level. In this way, we can use the rational placement of students to group them to make it more conducive to organize teaching activities. Thirdly, assess teacher performance should not be ignored. Teaching is the teacher's duty, which will  play a vital role, for the development of students, teachers, education, guidance (especially in knowledge) . It undoubtedly will evaluate student achievement as an important basis for teachers' job performance.

“Diversity is dissimilarities—differences—among people due to age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and capabilities or disabilities.” (Jones & George, 2017) . The fact also demonstrate the similar tendency in the The Duquesne University. The product of a four-year project funded by the Ford Foundation, Doing Diversity in Higher Education's case studies review diversity efforts at a variety of institutions, including publics, privates, historically black colleges and universities, and the Ivy League. Most of the authors were participants in the subjects they describe, and through a mix of personal anecdotes and institutional analyses, they have produced both a collection of best practices and a summary of the perils and pitfalls that continue to face campus diversity efforts today.  Office of Anti-discrimination Policy and Compliance are established to enforce Duquesne's anti-discrimination and sexual misconduct policies via the following ways.  Firstly, ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws and University policies governing student and employee behavior.  Secondly, responding to specific discrimination and misconduct complaints of students, faculty, administrators and staff.  Thirdly, mediating situations involving discrimination and harassment. In particular, in terms of complaints and concerns, The office works with faculty, administrators, staff and students to resolve concerns and offer options and institutional process to any individuals or groups believing they have experienced discrimination.. In terms of consultation and guidance, the office provides consultation, guidance and support to the University community regarding equal opportunity and nondiscrimination. In terms of training and education, The office offers training and education in conjunction with other University offices to work to ensure campus understanding of laws regarding discrimination and equal opportunity.  More importantly, current Duquesne students, staff and faculty can learn more about anti-discrimination in DORI or contact with the related staff and faculty through email.
